One of the hardest parts about being and entrepreneur is figuring out how to have a successful business and a life too—especially if your business is growing or changing. It quickly becomes a lot like that plant Seymour from “Little Shop of Horrors”. No matter what you do, or how many hours you work, it’ll always be there saying “feeeeeeed me.” But what it wants is your time and energy (and money of course).

At some point you have to say no or it WILL suck you dry physically and emotionally.

But if you want to be both successful and happy as an entrepreneur, you have to find a way to. To help you achieve a bit of that elusive—but necessary—work/life balance I recently solicited tips from more than 100 experts on productivity, time management, business/life balance, mindset and more. Below are a few more I thought were worth sharing. Enjoy!

You don’t have to be in charge of everything.

“As an entrepreneur with a small business it’s a natural tendency to want to keep your eyes and ears on every part of your business. However, that doesn’t mean you should be in charge of every aspect of your business. Our office stress level reduced dramatically when we took a look at the activities that we hated doing and then outsourced them to qualified professionals. After all, being an entrepreneur is supposed to be about having fun while making money!”

Shari Alexander – Expert Message Group, LLC http://www.expertmessagegroup.com/

Keep one calendar for everything.

“My advice to others is to keep ONE calendar and ONE to-do list that covers all aspects of work and life. Each evening–in preparation for the next day–I look at my to-do list and prioritize it. What are the top things that need to get done tomorrow? Things like volunteering in a child’s classroom, going to the gym or taking the car for an oil change may be more important on a particular day than some of the business items on the list.”

Leigh Steere, Co-founder – Managing People Better, LLC www.ManagingPeopleBetter.com

Take a real lunch break even if you work from home.

“As a copywriter and media buyer, not only am I a ‘solopreneur’, I work from a home office, where the lines between work and life can become very blurred. Much of my time is spent seeing clients in their place of business, but on in-office days, one thing I insist on is taking a real lunch break: up to a full hour away from my desk, when I let telephone calls go to voicemail and do not check email. This gives me a chance to unplug, regroup, and get back to business with a refreshed focus.”

Carole Holden, The Media Fairy – http://www.themediafairy.com/

Eliminate, delegate, outsource and automate (clearly this entrepreneur and I are cut from the same cloth)

“Take inventory of all activities that you do throughout the day, week, & month. Go through a “peel the onion layers” in this order: What can be ELIMINATED? Then DELEGATED/OUTSOURCED? If something can’t be eliminated or delegated, what can be automated?”

Paul Tran, Founder – Point B Capital Corporation http://www.paulttran.com/

Schedule personal time just as you would a business appointment.

“Many entrepreneurs are workaholics, which makes it hard for them to achieve work-life balance. A tip I give to my clients is to schedule personal time just as they would a business appointment. Put it in the calendar, block out the time, and treat that time slot just as if it was an appointment with your top client. We cannot serve our clients if we are burnt out, therefore scheduling time to maintain balance is just as important, if not more so, than any other task or appointment.”

Laura Waage, Business Coach and Consultant – Entrepreneur Success Tools http://www.entrepreneursuccesstools.com/

By Laura Waage

Blogging is a great platform for showcasing your expertise & knowledge and increasing your EA=RN Quotient. But there is often a false belief that blogging is too time consuming.

Here are 6 easy ways to generate meaningful content for your blog:

1. Find a relevant video on a site like youtube, embed it into your blog, and write a brief opening paragraph expressing your opinion or point of view. This is a simple method that takes only a few minutes to complete, but can provide immense value to your readers.

2. Use guest bloggers. Many people are willing to supply content for your blog in exchange for links back to their website. This is a great way to generate content while also establishing relationships with other experts in your niche. Often times those relationships can lead to joint ventures and affiliate partnerships, so be sure to connect with people that add value to the audience you are serving.

3. Repurpose your existing content. Sort through your older posts and revamp one that is relevant to your current topic. Updating the content, adding additional points, or putting a different spin on an existing topic are all great ways to modify your existing post with minimum effort, while simultaneously providing great material for your readers.

4. Visit a site like eHow.com and find an existing “How To” article that is specific to your target market. Then, improve the steps by making them your own, and post your revised “How To” article to your site. This is a great way to generate meaningful step-by-step content that is both educational and effective.

5. Find an existing and relevant article on a site like About.com and paste it into your site. Be sure to give the author credit (just as you would want credit for your own work) and then add a few sentences of your own expressing your opinion on the topic. This is a great time saving method for posting consistent content that is specific to your niche and valuable to your audience.

6. For many people, speaking is easier than typing an article. I often “speak” my articles and then have them transcribed into text. My favorite tool for doing this is Dragon Dictation, which has a free app for iPhone and iPad users, or you can buy the full software version, which has expanded capabilities. The other cost-effective option, which I have also used in the past, is to record them into a digital recorded, download them as an mp3 and then use a transcriber at Fiverr.com, where you can have your material transcribed for $5.

The other benefit to blogging is that there are several ways to monetize your efforts and create on-going and consistent income. If you’d like to learn more about this, please subscribe to our RSS feed and watch for next week’s series on monetizing your blogs!

Blogging provides multiple benefits that allow you to share your expertise and establish yourself as an Expert with Authority who gets Rich in your Niche.

And before your little voice starts to tell you that blogging is too time consuming, let me share this: the practice of blogging is absolutely worth the time, and there are several methods that can be used to simplify the blogging process and provide a strong return on your time investment. Many of these methods will be highlighted here this week, so be sure to subscribe to the RSS Feed so that you don’t miss them!

5 Ways That Blogging Increases Your EA=RN Quotient

1. Blog posts are indexed by the search engines. As a result, the more consistently that you post, the more of an increase you’ll see in your position in the search engine rankings. When someone performs a search for your niche or keywords, and your site is within the top few searches, it increases your credibility and further establishes you as the go-to person in your field.

2. Blogs provide a simple-to-use platform that allows you to showcase your knowledge and expertise to the world. Trying to do the same on a traditional website would require a lot more effort, and potentially a lot more expense, especially if it required the assistance of a webmaster.

3. Blogging enables you to creatively share your message by integrating video, audio, images and text. This level of creativity is a great way to spice up your posts and helps you to gain additional followers, which expands your presence as the authority in your niche.

4. Blogging provides a medium for interacting with your readers, which increases your “Know-Like-Trust” factor. When your readers interact with you, they get to know you. The more they know you, the more they like you, and like leads to trust. When you have the trust of your audience, you become an expert with authority and rich in your niche.

5. Blogging can increase your knowledge and industry awareness. As you further research topics to write about, you continually gain and expand your own knowledge base, which adds to your position as the expert in your field.

Blogs are truly an entrepreneur success tool. And while blogging requires consistent effort, in return it delivers consistently positive results that will earn you experts status with experts pay.

Have you experienced blogging success? Please comment and share on the blogging benefits that you’ve personally received.

Establish Yourself As An Expert with Authority
Establishing yourself as an Expert with Authority in your chosen niche will help you to accelerate the transition from functional to exceptional. Those that are recognized experts with authority find that their subsequent opportunities are always expanding. There are several ways to establish yourself as an expert with authority, and this article marks the start of a series on doing just that. Check this blog daily, or subscribe to the RSS feed, to learn more about the EA=RN Quotient… Becoming an Expert with Authority and Rich in your Niche.

Create A Strong Network
According to webster, “networking” is defined as “the cultivation of productive relationships”. The quality of your life, both personal and professional, will be based on the quality of your relationships. And relationships, like crops harvested over time, will produce magnificent rewards if properly cared for. To create long-lasting connections, remember the importance of first impressions… be happy, confident and most importantly, approachable. And remember that networking isn’t isolated to events with the term “networking” in the title. You never know when or where you will meet your next important contact.

Outsource Your Weaknesses
Most of us make the entrepreneurial jump with a great idea or concept in hand. But as our business and ideas take form, we quickly realize that there are things that we are great at (strengths), and things that we struggle with (weaknesses). The key to being a successful solopreneur is to recognize and leverage our strengths, while outsourcing our weaknesses. We have a finite number of hours to work with, and even though we are solopreneurs, if we try to do everything on our own then we will quickly find ourselves struggling. As the Pareto Principle teaches us, 80% of our results come from 20% of our efforts, therefore focus your energy on the most productive activities, and outsource those weaknesses which slow your momentum.

In a recent interview, I was asked “Where do I find my inspiration for staying on the entrepreneurial path on a daily basis?” As I reflected on the answer, I realized what a critical component “inspiration” has been to my success and wanted to share my success formula.

I’ve personally found that my inspiration comes from staying connected with other like-minded individuals and building quality business relationships. I do that in a three very specific ways:

1. I have an accountability partner, who is also an entrepreneur. We meet once a week at 6 AM to review our goals, objectives, and make sure we are on-target with the plans we have set for ourselves. This proactively helps us to work “ON” our business instead of always working “IN” our business, and also allows us to objectively look at each others business models to continue to spur our company growth and development.

2. I am part of a Mastermind group. I highly recommend joining or creating one if you are not already involved with one. The one I am specifically in is a group of entrepreneurs that gather once a month and share our business ideas and generate creative solutions. It gives us an opportunity to get other peoples’ objectives and opinions on our business models, and to generate ideas collectively that we may not see on our own. Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees, and a mastermind group gives us an opportunity to do so.

3. I actively network with other entrepreneurs. What I have found is that by finding a networking group where I meet with the same entrepreneurs on a regular basis, it allows me to see their growth and development and to be inspired by their success. Sharing their business models, success stories, etc. rejuvenates my creative process, which in turn positively affects my business.

Those are my three key successes for staying inspired: have an accountability partner, participate in a Master Mind group, and network with other entrepreneurs.

What is your source for inspiration? Please comment and share!

Video Marketing and Video Blogging have quickly become a very mainstream way of communicating. Entrepreneurs and small businesses alike are finding that their marketing success ratios significantly increase when they incorporate video into their marketing plan.

In addition, Video Marketing provides a platform for you to share your information with the masses while further establishing yourself as an expert in your niche.

But why is video becoming so popular? And what are the tricks to launching an effective campaign? I had these questions, and more, so I went right to the source and reached out to Dan Safkow,Video and Internet Marketing Expert, to get the INSIDER SECRETS on this growing phenomenon.

(Laura) Dan, Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. I really appreciate your willingness to share your expertise! When I look at the short history of video, I’m amazed at the trends. YouTube had its official launch in December of 2005, and 5 short years later it exceeds 2 billion views a day. Up until this point, it’s primarily been leveraged for personal use, but in the last year more and more businesses and entrepreneurs have started leveraging this platform for business purposes… and with great success. Why are video marketing and video blogging such important considerations for businesses today?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6kA4cpqR1E

(Laura) Thanks Dan. That’s a really important point. The Know, Like & Trust factor is such a critical component of a successful sales strategy, and video can help one to achieve that across the miles. Now if someone is new to video and wants to produce quality videos on a budget, what hardware and/or services do you recommend?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgdNl9GXBYA

(Laura) That’s great information Dan. I too have a Kodak zi8 and I love it! My favorite microphone is the Audio Technica 3350 and I’ve also found that using the Remote Control helps to make the process easier. So Dan, what are your recommendations for gaining widespread viewing of one’s video?

(Laura) Dan, thank you for your time today and for providing such a wealth of information for those looking to start or expand their video marketing efforts. How can people get in touch with you if they want to learn more information about video marketing?

(Laura) Thanks Dan! The resources you’re providing are phenomenal. Tell me,What’s your advice for launching an effective video marketing campaign? Are there certain components that it should include?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNiA0zP1EZ4

(Laura) That’s great advice Dan. Staying customer-focused instead of product-focused is such an important reminder for all aspects of marketing, not just video. As everyone knows, traditional online copy helps drive search engine results. Does video provide any SEO benefits, and if so, how?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDUCL0gpoDs

(Laura) Thanks Dan. That’s incredibly helpful information. One last question before we part - Obviously the goal with Video Marketing is to grow your viewership, so what are your suggestions for creating a video with “WOW” factor that draws viewers back for more?
